Plymouth Calligraphers was founded in 1993 to generate, promote and maintain an interest in calligraphy in all its traditional and modern styles. We are a small but friendly and enthusiastic group of mainly amateur calligraphers. We enjoy meeting together regularly to develop our calligraphic skills, explore new techniques, share ideas and learn from each other and our tutors.

We offer a variety of workshops during the year which take place at Hemerdon Village Hall. These are either one or two day events and vary in price depending on the tutor. Topics covered recently include; stencil and the art of calligraphy, calligrams and sharpened italic. We also have two ‘open workshops’ a year where people are able to spend the day working on any project they choose in the company of fellow calligraphers and without all the usual distractions of home.

As well as our workshops we also have meetings throughout the year where we showcase our work or have demonstrations. These meetings cost £2 and take place in the church hall at the Church of the Ascension in Crownhill.
